FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS cosmetic tattooing?

Cosmetic tattooing, also referred to as semi-permanent makeup or micropigmentation, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of hair strokes, makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face.

does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

A highly effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during your procedure.

Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used may not last as long.

HOW LONG DOES cosmetic tattooing LAST?

Cosmetic tattooing is considered semi-permanent and will not wash off, however will fade over time and may need a touch-up every 1 – 2 years. Frequency of touch-ups depends upon a number of factors including: the pigment color used (lighter colors fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), iron-deficiency, and if any chemical peels come into contact with the treated areas.

Please note that final results CANNOT be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently. I will evaluate how your skin has received the pigment at your follow-up session and make any necessary changes. Multiple sessions are normal for cosmetic tattooing, with each new procedure requiring at least 2 visits so be sure to book your touch-up appointment within 6 – 8 weeks after your initial procedure

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?

The complete healing process takes about 6 – 8 weeks. While your skin heals, be prepared for the color to intensify, to be significantly larger, sharper, brighter or darker than what is expected for the final outcome. This is a normal and expected result of the application and healing process. Be patient, even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and naturally exfoliating. Wait at least 6 weeks to see the true color, as it takes on new strength, and it is also when your touch up can be done.

Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may swell slightly or redden, some clients feel it best not to make social plans for a day or two following any procedure. Wear your normal makeup and bring your lip or brow pencils with you the day of the procedure.

Please be aware that in order to ensure we choose the right color pigment, we may need to remove any foundation or concealer you are wearing to see the true undertone of your skin. You may choose to bring your makeup to touchup after your procedure.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET tattooed?

You must be 18 years or older.

CAN I GET tattooed IF I’M PREGNANT OR NURSING?

Absolutely NOT.

IS THE FOLLOW UP SESSION NECESSARY?

For most clients, a minimum of two sessions are needed, at least 6 - 8 weeks apart. Certain areas will not pick up during the first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may also need to be adjusted and brow thickness and more strokes may be added. Individuals with oily skin require a deeper pigment shade during touch-up as the oils tend to lighten the pigment.
